Charging a Lithium Battery with an Alternator

Question:

Wondering if you know of any Inverter/Charger that would also take on alternator charging/regulation for LiFePO4 batteries. I am installing Lithium batteries and I wanted to see if installing a bigger battery inverter/charger would help with alternator charging as LiFePO4 batteries could burn out the alternators.  - Boris

Answer:

Hi Boris, to properly recharge a Lithium battery you’ll want to convert your alternator to be external regulated: https://www.pysystems.ca/products/power/external-regulator/  Not aware of an inverter/charger that is also external regulator. Long time ago, Xantrex made a Link2000R that was inverter/charger remote, battery monitor, and external regulator, but this product no longer exists.  -Jeff
