Running AC and DC Wiring in the Same Bundle?

Question:

In a previous video you mentioned not having AC and DC wire running parallel to each other. Could you elaborate on this? I have found areas on my boat where the wires have been run together. In some places it isn't avoidable without creating longer and complicated wire runs. What problems do you see when the wires are run together? How much space is needed between AC and DC parallel wiring to prevent problems? Is there a way to shield the wires to prevent interference?  Thank you.  Kelly

Answer:

ABYC states - "When AC and DC conductors are run together, the AC conductors shall be sheathed, bundled, or otherwise kept separate from the DC conductors.” 11.16.4.1.5.

It is permissible for them to be run together but multiple AC cables should be kept bundled together and separate from the DC with as much space is possible.
