How Do I Add a 120 Volt Inverter to My 220 Volt Sailboat?

Question:

I’m a fellow Canadian currently in Panama and I have a European Beneteau that’s wired for 220V. I’d like to install a 120V AC inverter off the battery bank to another AC panel to install some simple recepticals for my sail back to BC. I just want to do it right the first time. Any advice would be appreciated. - Joshua

Answer:

Definitely doable, just don’t integrate your existing AC loads that are meant to be powered by 220 VAC 50 Hertz to be powered by the new inverter. Basically make a new stand alone AC panel for your inverter loads. - Jeff
