Where Do I Install the Battery Shunt for My Boat?

Question:

Hello Jeff, we are a wee bit shy of marine electricians here in MT. You are the guru so I thought I’d give you a shout. I want to install a BMV-712 monitor for the house bank and volts for the engine battery but…house bank is also connected (pos & neg) to the Freedom Inverterter/Charger bank. Not sure where to install the monitor shunt?  Cheers, Bill

Answer:

When installing any battery monitor, including your BMV-712, absolutely all negative connections on the battery, need to be relocated to the load side of the battery monitor shunt.  It’s possible for an inverter/charger and a battery charger to both recharge one battery bank. - Jeff
