Battery Charger with a Honda Generator?

Question:

You suggested a 50 amp Promariner charger would be suitable for my boat. Please explain how the charger could potentially put out 50 amps with a 30 amp shore power hookup. Also, would a 2000w portable Honda generator be able to feed this charger adequately when at anchor? -Brent

Answer:

The output of the charger is 50 amps at 12 VDC and the input of the charger is on 30 amp at 120 VAC. A really efficient 50 amp battery charger will take about 8 to 10 amps at 120 VAC.  And yes, a 2000 Watt Honda Generator can run a 50 amp Promariner Charger. -Jeff
