Can I Run My Xantrex Charger While My Solar Panels Are Charging My Batteries?

I have a MPPT solar controller and a 100 watt solar panel hard wired to 2 golf cart batteries.  I also have a Xantrex 40 battery charger. My qestion is should I run the charger while connected to the solar panel/controller?  - Frank

Hi Frank, assuming your solar controller is a good MPPT controller, there is absolutely no problem to have both solar and a battery charger recharging your battery bank at the same time.  For example, on my own boat there are 6 MPPT controllers and 1 battery charger connected to the same battery bank operating simultaneously for the last 9 years without problem.  - Jeff
