so we've got a question from a fellow

voter bill and bill recently installed a

7515

solar controller solar controller is a

basically converts all the energy coming

a solar panel and giving the batteries

exactly what they need for

shining and sometimes their batteries

are empty

and the sun is shining and the job of

the solar controller is to figure that

all right but the question is here

here's where it gets interesting

so uh bill says oh i know that the

victron 7515 should be

unswitched so good he remembers

excellent

good setup but the bluetooth sometimes

gets confused

and you can't connect with the victron

connect without de-powering the

controller completely and resetting it

i want i don't want to disconnect leads

to do this how would you solve this

great question yeah well first of all

let's put this in context uh bluetooth

is not let's be honest 100 reliable

sometimes you could actually have

configured your phone to connect to a

device in this case a victron 7515 solar

controller

and for whatever reason over time that

connection is not working

so that gets a little bit sort of

tedious and what bill's talking about

here is trying to reset that connection

so the first thing i do you know on a

smartphone is i actually

forget the device on my own phone so

i'll say okay actually forget the 7515

and then what i'll do is i'll actually

repower the bluetooth and i'm going to

say okay

i want you to connect to this new device

and i'll pretend that we're establishing

a new connection failing that

bill's right sometimes it's good to

actually depower a device

and the way you would do that is

actually by removing the fuse and

remember this is

essential there's a fuse located

at the battery and that is

interconnected to the solar controller

so

your batteries are here and your solar

controllers here

there has to be a fuse between those two

devices i'm always harping on that

super important every single circuit on

your boat except the starter circuit

has to be fused it doesn't mean the

starter circuit shouldn't be fused it

means that it doesn't have to

but every circuit on your boat has to be

so the fuse for the solar controller is

right here

at the beginning of the circuit not from

the solar panel perspective and remember

the victron 7515 even has a fuse built

in

that fuses from the solar controller to

the panel so what i would do if i ever

wanted to reset a controller and

certainly on my boat i would actually

remove the fuse

so you should know where that fuse is

for your solar control and if you want

to reset the power without removing any

leads without doing anything crazy

make sure obviously the sun is not

shining and that the solar panel is not

outputting so put a blanket on top

and then what i would do is i would

remove the fuse right so it's going to

either be a sort of an automotive fuse

which is called an ato atc

or it could be a glass fuse but whatever

it is if you

remove that fuse from the circuit now

the controller is going to be depowered

and once it's depowered then you can

reconnect wait a minute

not sure why but a lot of people say

that again maybe some of you on youtube

can share in why is that

but i do that even for my router at home

for internet sometimes i have to

disconnect and i have to

disconnect it for a period of time just

do that 30 seconds

generally even a second is fine but just

you know let everything sort of

go offline reconnect and then your

bluetooth should work

without any problem so great question
